Sessions included topics on Technical Theatre Best Practices, Sound Design, Literature Circles and Building Strong Program Culture. Applications are now open for the Texas Young Masters Class of 2026. This valuable program is a join initiative between the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas Cultural Trust. that provides exemplary Texas student artists in grades 8-11 with the financial help they need to pursue advanced study in the areas of visual arts, literary arts, music, theater, dance, musical theater, folk arts, and media arts. The state’s most talented young artists will receive the title of “Young Master” and be awarded grants of $5,000 per year for up to two years to further their studies in their respective disciplines. Applications, information and guidelines are available online at arts.texas.gov/initiatives/young-masters/. Applications and required supporting materials must be submitted by November 3, 2025.

Continuing our fall concert music series, our Eastern Hills MS and Harker Heights HS Orchestras brought to the stage classical tunes and modern day hit music!
This past Thursday 15 performing groups from KISD secondary theater programs battled it out in the third annual Lip Sync Battle. Students crafted stellar performances based in
songs from the years 1920 and 2020. Performances varied from rockstar dance moves to zombie apocalypses and even included a showdown between cowboys and aliens. The judges had a tough decision. Congratulations to Rancier Middle School, Killen High School (3rd place), Roy J. Smith Middle School, Ellison High School (2nd place) and Liberty Hill Middle School, Harker Heights High School (1st place)!
